Apple has shipped its new MacBook Pros with a version of macOS Ventura and it seems that they cannot update to macOS Sonoma.
Last week Apple presented new MacBook Pros and a new iMac equipped with the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips and those users who pre-ordered them have begun receiving them today. And some of them have had an unexpected surprise: instead of macOS Sonoma they have arrived with macOS Ventura.
This means that Apple has had these new MacBooks in storage somewhere for quite some time, as macOS Sonoma was officially released on September 26, so it’s been quite some time already. Specifically, several users who have received a basic 14-inch MacBook Pro from Apple with the M3 chip and realized that it comes with an unreleased version of macOS Ventura installed, 13.5. But that is not the worst.
MacBook Pros with M3 chip arrive with macOS Ventura and cannot update to Sonoma
That a device arrives with an old software version is not something serious, it is even normal. However, That they cannot update to the latest version of the system is more worrying. And that is what is happening.
When users try to update their new MacBook Pro with M3 chip to macOS Sonoma in the System Settings app, macOS Ventura 13.5 appears as the latest version available instead of macOS Sonoma 14.1which is really the system they can use.
Ok, here’s something weird.
Our M3 MacBook Pro shipped with Ventura and can’t seem to update to Sonoma at all. Version not supported.

We are not clear how Apple will address this problem, although they will most likely release a small macOS Ventura update to these Macs that do. allow them to install macOS Sonoma. It must be appreciated that the new Mac operating system comes with important new features that these users cannot test at the moment.
In macOS Sonoma we now have widgets on the desktop that sync with the iPhone, we have the possibility of creating web apps, that is, we can have a Netflix app on the Mac, and many more interesting new features.
