Shortly after launching a complete overhaul of its mobile app to control its audio products, Sonos is considering rolling back the app to the previous version following numerous user complaints, reports The VergeA chaotic situation that has provoked heated discussions internally.
Sonos is considering all options
While Sonos is working to address a number of issues and missing features with the new app and has set a timeline to keep users updated on the company’s progress, our colleagues report that “high-level discussions within Sonos” have centered around the possibility of offering the old app as an interim solution.
Letting customers revert to the old software could ease their frustrations and at least reduce some of the pressure on Sonos to fix all the problems with the new app. For now, the revamped version is the only one available, which is preventing some customers from avoiding its flaws and getting the most out of their speakers, like the Move currently on sale at Amazon at -33%.
Last week, Sonos CEO Patrick Spence revealed during the company’s earnings call that it would delay the launch of two upcoming products due to “issues with our new app.” While Spence didn’t identify the products in question, one of them is likely a successor to the company’s flagship Arc soundbar. However, after the new app was launched, Sonos said it had the courage to redesign it, while also offering a schedule of updates to fix some usability issues and bring back missing features. It’s that last point that has customers on edge.
Doing a redesign by removing several highly used features was not a good idea, one wonders who could have thought that it would go over well with users.
