We are just over a month away from the 2022 edition of the Mobile World Congress and Sony announced that it is canceling its participation in one of the most important events in the sector.
The arrival of 2022 filled many sectors with hope as a year in which the health situation would apparently change to resume hundreds of activities that were suspended or restricted due to the arrival of the pandemic.
The truth is that the Omicron variant has thrown these plans overboard and we have seen how various events that opted for a face-to-face format for their 2022 editions simply look deserted and without the participation of great exponents.
The anticipated departure of Sony from the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona could already put on the table an edition far from expectations, where the main value of these fairs (which has to do with the possibility that attendees have to enjoy live of innovations) would simply be minimized.
As expected, Sony’s decision responds to the growing number of infections that are recorded around the world.
Mobile World Congress without Sony
Through a press release, the Japanese company has indicated in a timely manner:
“Sony Corporation has made the decision not to have its own booth at MWC 2022. As the world has largely shifted to digital and online opportunities, Sony Corporation will communicate so that it can deliver our exciting product news to a wider audience»
Although with this statement it is clear that Sony will not participate in person, what is not specified is whether the company will try to participate in the event virtually to communicate its news.
With this decision it would be the third consecutive year that Sony decides not to be part of the Mobile World Congress in person, an event that for now remains on to be held from February 28 to March 3 next.
