More and more games are getting a remake version, and those that managed to mark a generation are undoubtedly titles that many people would buy again for nostalgia, but also to see the comparison that the evolution represents with respect to the old version. One of the ones that caught our attention the most during its presentation in 2021 was Splinter Cell Remakeone of Ubisoft’s almost forgotten sagas that gained great fame during its time for being the perfect stealth games.
Remakes are versions of older games adapted to current technologies, and it’s quite common to think that it’s the same game but with decent graphics, but thinking this is actually a mistake, since the difference is not only at the graphic level, but also in the gameplay and many other aspects of the title. Although there are certain companies that are currently making a living by making new versions of their older games, this is the first Ubisoft title that was presented as a remake, along with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
The remake of one of Ubisoft’s most legendary games could arrive much later than we think
Creating a game is not an easy task, that is more than clear, but there are always ways to make it even more complicated, and there are many factors that we must take into account when developing a new video game. Splinter Cell Remake It’s a title that many people are waiting for, and it’s normal that many people want to relive the times when Sam Fisher was one of the most important characters in video games, and even more so considering that his last game was released in 2013.
But it looks like we’re going to have to hold back our anticipation for quite a bit longer, mainly due to the fact that Ubisoft isn’t giving out any kind of information about this title, as development seems a bit complicated. During 2022, David Grivel, who was going to be the director of this new title, left the company after more than 11 years working at Ubisoft, which has apparently made things a lot more difficult since then, but this doesn’t mean that the project isn’t being carried out.
And one of the good news we were able to find in December 2023 is that the part of the company in charge of developing this game, Ubisoft Toronto, published various job offers, a total of about 12 that would be directly related to this game. In the last public statements made by Darryl Long, the general manager of this part of the company, he indicated that the title was still in development, but that it would “remain in stealth mode, for now,” which implies that it is still in a very early phase of development.
As we can expect, this is one of the most important games that the company is going to release in the next few years, mainly due to the fact that they don’t want to ruin a saga as important as Splinter Cell, and the fact is that in the last releases they have had, they haven’t been too successful.
