Apple’s former chief designer has nothing but words of gratitude for Jobs and the company!
A career full of milestones has earned him Jony Ive a place in the history of Apple and in the history of design. But these, not inconsiderable qualities, are not the only ones that have made him known. In his years at the company with the bitten apple, Ive was one of the people closest to Steve Jobs, forming a creative duo and a great friendship, which he always remembers and pays tribute to.
Jony Ive surprised the world by announcing his departure from Apple in 2019, after 30 years of service to the company, to found his own design firm, LoveFrom. At the time, and despite the fact that LoveFrom had Apple as a client, speculation about his decision was not long in coming.
In a recent interview on the podcast “Life in Seven Songs”Apple’s former design chief discussed his relationship with Jobs, his departure from the company and other topics of interest.
Jony Ive recalls his friendship with Steve Jobs
Jony Ive responded to what his first meeting with Steve Jobs was like, stating that he remembered it clearly:
“What was amazing to me was that I could think and process myself and develop a perspective and an opinion and develop ideas, but I could barely describe them. Here was someone who could, almost without thinking, describe really complex feelings and perceptions of ideas and opportunities in a simple way.”
The mastermind behind some of the company’s most iconic products, including the iPhone and iPad, He also mentioned the core motivations that drove his decision to leave Apple after 30 years.
I mean, it’s a very natural thing, isn’t it, that there are chapters and leaving Apple was, in some ways, a terribly difficult thing to do because I loved the company so much. And there are times when, you know, it’s time to move on to the next chapter.”
Taking advantage of the strong relationship that united him with Jobs within Apple, Ive was also asked about this:
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t realize his loss. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel grateful for the time we spent together and for what I learned and what we discovered.”
Although his time at Apple will always make him a source of interest, The podcast “Life in Seven Songs” fulfilled its purpose of getting to know Ive better through seven musical themeswith which she demonstrated that her taste is as exquisite as her design. Here is her selection:
- “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” by The Police.
- “Main Theme/Carter Takes a Train” by Roy Budd.
- “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” by The Temptations.
- “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds.
- “Define Dancing” by Thomas Newman.
- “40” by U2.
- “This Is The Day” by Ivy.
