When he thinks he has to return by taxi because his Tesla is stuck in a closed parking lot, a man manages to get her to come to him so that she can unlock the gate.
As long as you can afford them, Tesla electric cars have a whole range of interesting options on paper, such as the Smart Summon, unveiled in 2019. The function generally allows the vehicle to ride a short distance without the need for a driver. Shortly after its launch, the Smart Summon was not ready. It has even caused a few accidents in the United States.
Now corrected and effective, the option has almost become a “gadget”. However, in certain situations, it can be very useful. On X (Twitter), user @JackyHeshi tells his story. He parked his Tesla in a parking lot whose access is closed by a metal gate. So far, nothing unusual, except that the owner of the car forgot to note what is written on a sign at the entrance: the car park closes automatically at 10 p.m.. After this period, you will have to wait until the next day to recover your vehicle. Of course, he realizes this after 10 p.m.
Thanks to the Smart Summon function, a man manages to unlock the parking lot where his Tesla was located
Luckily for him, his Tesla has the Smart Summon option. Lucky it’s parked close enough to the gate that it’s within activation range. Heshi then asks the car to roll up to him. She starts and approaches before finally pass the sensor which triggers the opening of the gate of the parking lot. The man won’t be walking home tonight. According to the manual, Smart Summon allows a Tesla to ride a maximum distance of 65 meters while avoiding obstacles.
You can see the scene filmed by Jacky Heshi below. In the posts that follow, we can even enjoy the view from the vehicle’s on-board cameras. Perhaps these kinds of mishaps will make future buyers think twice about the value of putting their hand in their pocket for the Smart Summon option.
