Farming games are, paradoxically with the treatment of farmers, very popular. Their strong point? Offering a rich and relaxing experience. Taking care of your crops, building a relationship with characters and indulging in many jobs and hobbies means you never get bored. Stardew Valley is the best recent example.
Except that the LemonChili studio has changed the recipe by offering a title that is far from peaceful, a sort of “Harvest Moon on steroids” with Super Farming Boy, soon to be available on mobile, PC and consoles in the near future.
A future HIT on mobile
In Super Farming Boy™, you play as Super, whose mother and friends have been captured by your evil nemesis, KORPO®©TM, who illegally hires you to work on your own land, taking all the profits for himself! Now, with your friends and mom to sell, you must harvest your way through difficult adventures, saving enough to buy your mom and friends back!
In Super Farming Boy, you are a boy, you are a farmer, but most importantly, you are SUPER. A big bad guy has kidnapped all your friends and your own mother, and is holding them hostage. He demands a ransom for each of them.
Without further ado, you will be forced to cultivate your land, hoping to gather enough money to buy their freedom and defeat the villain. As you can imagine, given your pedigree, your farming skills are not exactly those of your average farmer. With the push of a button, you can transform into a shovel, a hammer, a pickaxe, a watering can, and much more because your hero will also be able to fly. These are just a few examples of the possibilities offered, not to mention magical seeds.
Here is the official trailer for Super Farming Boy, to discover the story, as well as the mechanics and some of the gameplay:
The game seems to be a clever mix between Bomberman, Astro Boy and Harvest Moon, no less. Combo-based farming and power-ups give Super Farming Boy a strong emphasis on action, which will attract players who weren’t won over by the slow pace of the usual titles in the genre.
What about the art direction, with endearing stylized characters, punchy animations and a general retro style that recalls several of the studio’s titles, such as Floyd’s Sticker Squad and Tower Power – Flick’em Up. Special mention to the controls, possible with the touch screen, controllers and even keyboards on compatible devices.
Still, for now, no release date has been set for Super Farming Boy. It has simply been announced on almost all platforms that exist, including iOS and tvOS, which is always good to take for Apple customers.
EDIT of 08/28 : LemonChili has announced a more detailed release plan for Super Farming Boy, including the availability of the iOS version for pre-order on the App Store. While the full launch isn’t coming anytime soon – not until Q2 2025 – pre-ordering will get you a 20% discount.
