Last year, Apple TV+ released the third season of its very popular series Ted Lasso. Even if the last episode of season 3 suggests that the series is over, officially, it is not over, you only have to look at specialized sites like IMDb or AlloCiné which assure that the series is still “in progress”. The co-creator of the series, Bill Lawrence, recently gave an interview in the media, he assures that the future of the series rests on one person!
Ted Lasso back for season 4?
The future of the hit series Ted Lasso remains uncertain as Apple TV+ subscribers eagerly await news regarding a potential fourth season. In a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, series co-creator Bill Lawrence discussed the prospects of a new season that will likely be the final one. However, even though he is a co-creator and Apple is all in for a new season, it all comes down to one person!
Jason Sudeikis, who plays the charismatic coach Ted Lasso, is at the heart of the discussions. His commitment is crucial for the production of new episodes. However, the actor has shown reluctance to continue the adventure. The main reason is the geographical distance, the series is filmed in the United Kingdom, while Sudeikis’ family lives in the United States. Each season means several months of separation from his loved ones, a constraint too heavy for the actor.
Despite these uncertainties, Bill Lawrence has said he is open to continuing the series if Sudeikis wants it to. The creative team, as well as Lawrence, are showing great enthusiasm for continuing Ted Lasso and are even considering spin-offs exclusive to Apple TV+. This strategy has already paid off for other popular series such as The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory And NCISall of which have had successful spin-offs.
Talk of Ted Lasso spin-offs includes the possibility of following beloved characters like Rebecca and Roy. This expansion of the Ted Lasso universe could keep fans excited even if the main series ends.
While we wait for Jason Sudeikis to make a decision, Lawrence is still very active. He’s working on several other projects for Apple TV+, including season 2 of Shrinking, which is expected in October, and he’s been working extensively on a new series called Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn, which will launch next week.
Ted Lasso is not finished, but is currently “on hiatus”
For the moment, Jason Sudeikis has not expressed his desire to continue or not Ted Lasso. The series therefore remains on “hiatus”, leaving Apple TV+ subscribers in uncertainty but with the hope of a return or a new direction via spin-offs. Apple TV+ and the creators seem ready to explore all possible solutions to extend the warm and inspiring universe of Ted Lasso.
