During the Evo 2022 fighting game tournament last weekend, the publisher revealed a trailer announcing a free update for Tekken 7, as well as news about the game’s global finals.
However, the trailer ended with a short teaser showing the scene where Kazuya drops Heihachi off the edge of a cliff at the end of the first Tekken.
The trailer ended with Kazuya smiling, then the screen changed to a much more realistic depiction of Kazuya, with the words “Get ready.”
Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada briefly appeared onstage and jumped up and hugged the Evo hosts, before waving and walking offstage.Although the trailer didn’t explicitly state that it was for Tekken 8, there hasn’t been a new Tekken game in seven years, so expect a new one.
A new Tekken game is needed
Tekken 7 was released in 2015 and has been receiving regular downloadable content updates ever since.
In fact, the trailer for ‘Tekken 8’ appeared at the end of a Tekken 7 trailer which stated that a free update was coming on August 17th.
The new update will include “new tactics” and balance adjustments to ensure the game is fairer for each character.
Harada stated last year that Tekken X Street Fighter hadn’t been completely canceled yet, even though it was announced 12 years ago.
In an episode of his video talk show Harada’s Bar, Harada appeared to declare that the game had been scrapped.
However, he later took to Twitter to explain that the subtitles hadn’t been translated correctly and that he meant they had been archived, but not permanently cancelled.
