Tesla is recalling thousands of its newer Model Y vehicles for an issue that could cause injury to drivers, but especially passengers, according to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to a new NHTSA filing, some 3,470 2022 and 2023 model year vehicles reportedly shipped with finish defect. Indeed, some bolts of the cars would simply be loosened. These would be located at the level of the rear seats and the seat belts of the second row of seats, which could lead to a dangerous situation if the vehicle were to have an accident.
The NHTSA says that letters will be sent to affected owners by April 25, each of them to be repaired free of charge at nearby Tesla service stations as soon as possible.

Tesla is physically recalling its Tesla cars
If you follow automotive news, you probably know that Tesla’s recalls are mostly quite different from other vehicles. These number in the tens each year, MayThis does not always mean that owners of electric cars have to go to the garage to have their car serviced.
At Tesla, the term “recall” usually means that Elon Musk’s company simply rolled out an update to correct an issue. However, on rare occasions like here, Tesla drivers will have to travel to Tesla shops to have their vehicle repaired, since we’ve never seen an update tighten any bolts.
Due to the small number of vehicles and model range affected, it appears that the problem was detected relatively quickly on the production linesalthough it is not yet known how many vehicles produced, but not yet sold, are also affected.
Tesla believes thatapproximately 4% of recalled cars have the defect, which the company says it identified on Dec. 10, when an operator at the Tesla factory in Fremont, Calif., noticed the second-row seats weren’t screwed in properly. We therefore wonder why Tesla took nearly three months before issuing a recall notice for these Model Ys.
