There is no doubt that the Apple Watch Series is an incredible device and that, without making a noise, it has become the company's second best-selling product only behind the iPhone. Recently, the results of the number of units sold in 2023 have come out and the result of the Apple smartwatch is amazing. Now, it seems that an old acquaintance has emerged for the Californian company, surpassing Huawei.
The Apple Watch is the king of the market
If the general results of the Apple Watch series are already good, this year it has surpassed itself with a 7% growth. This is due to the first generation of the Watch Ultra. However, Apple's great success in this market has not been the company's two flagships, but rather it has been the Apple Watch SE and the promotions you have found in third-party stores.
In a traditional way, Samsung has been the second largest manufacturer of smart watches. However, this year there has been a complete “surprise”, because the Chinese firm Huawei has taken an incredible leap forward, snatching a large part of Samsung's sales and placing itself in second position.
What is this due to?
There are several reasons that explain this development by Huawei and Apple. Firstly, it is clear that the Californian firm has been able to take advantage of the benefits of its ecosystem to generate a practically perfect product, not only with the iPhone, which is your best friend, but also with the Mac, unlocking quickly or to listen to music with the AirPods without having the device in front of you.
The launch of the Apple Watch Ultra has also been a kind of revolution for a design that was beginning to show signs of wear. After several generations with the Series generation unchanged, the new Apple watch has delighted the majority of fans of the bitten apple, because it is a watch with new functionalities and a new design.
Secondly, we have Huawei. As you already know, the Chinese technology company has experienced a long journey in the desert after former President Trump's ban on offering software from American companies to the Chinese company. However, in the computer and smart watch market it seems that the situation has not been so dramatic, because it has been able to continue developing products and selling them not only in China, but outside of it, which has caused little by little has been gaining market share. This is a fundamental and existential aspect for Huawei, because it will be able continue earning income to continue developing their own Silicon and their own modems to circumvent North American sanctions.
In conclusion, we have to wait for the response from the Korean company, since the drop in sales, according to 9to5Mac, is due to the fact that the new watches have been on the market for a short time and the previous generation did not represent a leap forward compared to to previous releases, partially explaining its decline. Time will tell if Huawei's resurgence is temporary or Samsung has to get its act together sooner rather than later.
