In the midst of the digital age and with the iPhone advancing more and more in cameras, filling the device with photos is too easy. And at the same time can end up deriving into a real gallery chaos. For this reason, I decided to organize this application as well as possible.
And although I applied a lot of advice obtained from experience, the truth is that the Apple forums can be a mine where you can find real diamonds in the form of organization. So, I’ll tell you What are the best tips to always have our memories organized.
iCloud, always iCloud
Although I am also a supporter of Google Photos, Amazon Photos and many others that come to mind, my experience over the years makes me see that iCloud is the best option when it comes to an iPhone. Not surprisingly, it is Apple’s own cloud.
Thus, I consider essential prioritize cloud over internal space and, taking into account that photos and videos are always what take up the most, I always choose the iPhone with the lowest capacity when it comes to renewing my mobile. However, that is another topic with other peculiarities.
The important thing here is always have access to your photos and know they will never be lost. It will not matter if the iPhone breaks down or if we are using the Mac or the iPad. Our photos will always be safe. Although, yes, you will have to go through the box every month. I have an Apple One plan, but here it is a matter of preference for each one to find the iCloud payment model that is most convenient.
With the contracted cloud, the priority is enable the ‘iCloud Photos’ option of the iPhone. To do this, just go to settings > Photos and activate the corresponding box (if it was not already activated before).
Create own albums
It is true that the iPhone automatically organizes the photos into albums such as screenshots, portraits, from WhatsApp, from Twitter, etc. However, organizing them on our own is usually more effective. A somewhat cumbersome task, but useful to locate our snapshots faster.
For example, if you attend a birthday you can add all the photos and videos to a specific album for that birthday or to a generic one for this type of event. In the end, it is a matter of how you want to organize each one, but always trying to differentiate the albums well to make it easier to find the photos in question when searching.
Review ‘People’ albums
Continuing with that goal of locate photos faster, I consider it very important to pay attention to automatic albums that detect who is in the photos. If you go to the ‘People’ album and never set it up, you’ll see a bunch of faces waiting to be tagged. tag them.
It should be said that in most cases it recognizes faces well, but you always have to be attentive. Thus, it is important from time to time to enter these albums and explore the “Confirm photos” options, which will allow us to tell the system if the people that appear in certain photos are or not the person that has been tagged by default.
And this is how it is possible to speed up the search for moments based on the people who were in those snapshots. It will suffice to resort to the ‘Photos’ app search engine and write the name with which we tag that person. In fact, You can also locate photographs in which several people appearideal for example if you want to find memories that person and you.
Watch out for duplicate photos
One of the great novelties of iOS 16 was being able to delete or merge duplicate photos. And it is that often we tend to have several repeated photographs. Either because we have taken several shots of the same scene, have received that photograph several times or because we have been the ones who have unconsciously downloaded it twice.
Just open the ‘Photos’ app and in the ‘Albums’ tab go to the bottom to locate the ‘Duplicates’ album. And once there we can go selecting the photos individually or at once to later merge them all and always keep the best quality. The plus of this function is being able to save space.
Activate camera location
Although we can understand that giving location permissions to an external app can be conflictive, especially when it does not serve to provide a specific functionality. However, the ‘Camera’ app only collects data to locate our snapshots and thus have them more localizable.
In fact, there is an album in the ‘Photos’ app called ‘Places’ and in which we can scroll through a map seeing all the photographs taken throughout the planet. If you did not give those permissions to the ‘Camera’ app, all you have to do is go to settings > Privacy & Security > Location > Camera and click on ‘When the app is used’. And if you want it to be even more precise, also activate the ‘Exact location’ box.
My two tricks to not forget the memories
Let’s be honest, many times we take pictures that we never look at again. We tend to immortalize moments that later end up dying no matter how much we have them in our gallery. For this reason, I always resort to explore photos and videos from previous years. And for that, I have two tips.
The first one you probably already know and it is access the ‘For you’ tab of the ‘Photos’ app. In it we can find videos automatically assembled by iOS for different reasons. In my case, memories related to pets abound, but there are also certain events such as vacations or parties, which, thanks to the location, can be easily detected by the iPhone.
Although if I tell you the truth, in the end I resort more to rudimentary technique of reviewing photos manually by date. For example, if it’s March 23, I go to the search engine and type “March 23” to see all the photos and videos I’ve taken on this day since I’ve been using the iPhone.
Obviously life does not always give me time to stop in detail to see each and every one of the snapshots recorded 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and more years ago. However, I look at them from above. And the climax of the manual of this trick comes with set a reminder that repeats every day to remember, when I have a few minutes of rest, to do this. And believe me it’s a good way to remember moments.
Bonus: two tips to improve our photographs
Although we can find many tricks to improve our photographs and that have nothing to do with the organization of the gallery, I did not want to miss the opportunity to recommend two actions that are repeated ad nauseam in forums of expert users in photography and that, in my own personal experience, I can attest that they work.
The always-on grid
have a good framing in a photograph It’s fundamental. And yes, later you can always straighten the photograph, but if we take a framed photograph as standard, we will avoid losing many details.
‘Live Photos’ always active
Beyond the interesting effects provided by ‘Live Photo’, such as creating a long exposure effect and even GIFs, in the end having it activated also helps to always choose the best time. If by default the iPhone has not chosen the moment we wanted from the scene, we can edit it and choose the frame that fits what we wanted to show.
