Are you eagerly awaiting the September 9 keynote to find out if you’re going to fall for the new iPhone 16 Pro? Then you’ve come to the right place.
Customers who already have an iPhone 15 Pro probably don’t have much interest in looking at the new model, as the differences are modest. But those with an older device may be wondering: should they get an iPhone 15 Pro on sale or wait for the iPhone 16? Here are the main differences to help you out.
Comparison between iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro
To start, let’s recall that the iPhone 15 Pro introduced a lighter and more compact titanium frame, making it easier to hold, a USB-C port for faster data transfers, a new customizable Action button and the A17 Pro processor offering the possibility of playing AAA games. The camera also benefits from improvements for zoom and light management, while the display offers slightly improved brightness.
The iPhone 16 Pro, which will be unveiled on September 9, 2024, and likely launched on September 19, will bring several improvements over the iPhone 15 Pro.
What’s new in the iPhone 16 Pro
Here are the main differences expected between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro:
- Screen : The iPhone 16 Pro will be slightly larger with a 6.3-inch OLED display, compared to 6.1 inches for the iPhone 15 Pro. The screen will also be brighter, with even thinner edges, offering an even more immersive visual experience. For its part, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will go to 6.9 inches.
- Performance : The new iPhone 16 Pro will be powered by the A18 Pro processor, promising improved performance and power efficiency over the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro. Still, the phone is said to retain 8GB of RAM.
- Camera : Notable improvements are expected for the camera system, with a 48MP ultra-wide sensor and 5x telephoto zoom, compared to the 12MP and 3x zoom of the iPhone 15 Pro. A new capture button should improve shooting.
- Battery : The iPhone 16 Pro will have a slightly larger battery (3,577mAh vs. 3,274mAh for the iPhone 15 Pro), which could provide better battery life. Additionally, wired charging speeds will increase to 40W, up from 27W on the iPhone 15 Pro, and MagSafe charging will also be faster (20W vs. 15W).
- Connectivity : The new iPhone 16 Pro will feature Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, delivering faster and more reliable internet speeds.
- Design and Materials : The titanium frame design could be shinier on the iPhone 16 Pro, compared to the brushed finish of the iPhone 15 Pro, and a new exclusive “Desert Titanium” color is said to be in the works.
These improvements may not justify an upgrade for all users, especially those who already own an iPhone 15 Pro. The same is true for an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
But for those who have an older model, like an iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone 11 or even iPhone 12, the question arises. The fact remains that the new size will not fit all hands. Let’s see this in detail.
Dimensions of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro
The iPhone 15 Pro managed to reduce the overall size by slimming down the bezels and rounding off the corners, but this year, Apple will most likely stretch its flagship phone again. Going from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, the iPhone 16 Pro will be even bigger, and heavier! How far away are the days when the iPhone could be handled with one hand.
Here is a comparison of the expected template:
iPhone 15 Pro | iPhone 16 Pro |
70.60 mm wide | 71.45 mm wide (+ 1 mm) |
146.6 mm high | 149.6 mm high (+ 3 mm) |
8.25 mm thick | 8.25 mm thick (=) |
187 grams | 194 grams (+ 7 g) |
We’ll update this article following Apple’s keynote, but given the number of leaks, we already know 99% of the contours of the iPhone 16 Pro…
