Since the Google Pixel 6a, something has been repeated in the following launches of cheap Pixel phones: the camera with a “robocop” viewfinder. It was in the Pixel 7a, in the Pixel 8a and apparently it will not be in the next one. Google Pixel 9awhich has been leaked for the first time.
With the Google Pixel 9 fresh out of the oven, leaks of the cheap version arrive quickly, something that is usual in Google phones. The big surprise: the design of the cameraalmost flush with the chassis.
Is this the next Google Pixel 9a?
According to the first leak of the upcoming budget Pixel, the Google Pixel 9a would complete the transition to a flat design, flattening even the camera module. No more futuristic viewfinder like on the Pixel 8a and not protruding as much as the one on the Pixel 9: It hardly stands out.
The module for the cameras has been One of the hallmarks of the Google Pixel in its latest iterations, although it was not always as special as in the last releases. If the images are real and correspond to a prototype that will end up being marketed later, then Google has opted for a new design.

And where did these images come from? They were shared by @VNchocoTaco on X, taken from a Vietnamese Facebook group. The original post has been deleted, which aligns better with the idea that these are real photos taken by someone on the assembly line that they are fake. The leaker indicates that they would come from an employee of Compal, Google’s partner in the manufacture of the Pixels.
Not much else can we see in the leaked photos, except that the flat-edged design of the Pixel 9 and the position of the speakers and the SIM card slot at the bottom of the terminal. The camera, in addition to not protruding, has two lenses.
According to the leaker, this model is already ready for mass production, which should mean that this will be the design that hits stores. When that will happen is something we don’t yet know, but what is certain is that Cheap Pixels are usually presented around the time of Google I/O, in MayThere are about nine months left until then.
