The air fryer is the strongest appliance in this decade, without a doubt. There are hardly any kitchens left in Spain that do not have one and the reasons are various. Today we are going to give one more that usually goes unnoticed.
The first thing is that if you are looking for one and do not know which one to choose, we have a very useful guide to choose the best fryers. And the second thing that we have to highlight is that, although almost everything we can say about these is good, there are some points that do have to be taken into account.
But where are we going? The positive point that is not usually highlighted in air fryers is consumption. But is it cheaper to use an air fryer than an oven for cook at home? Undoubtedly yes.
In a press release published on the RMIT University website, Alan Pears, a sustainability expert at RMIT University Melbourne, states that: “Air fryers use half the electricity and get the same result“.
Reasons why making food with an air fryer is cheaper
An air fryer heats up in a few minutes, much faster than a conventional oven, and consumes approximately two thirds of the energy, explains the Australian expert.
This is because it uses a combination of instant, radiant heat and high-velocity hot air circulation.. And it is that the high circulation of air on the food drastically increases the rate of heat transfer to them.
“Conventional fan ovens use this feature to some extent, but air fryers take it to another level: The higher the air speed, the greater the heat flow.“, justifies.
However, this depends on how big your air fryer is and how much energy it draws vs. your oven, plus how many people you’re making food for. The savings will be less if you cook multiple batches in the air fryer.
