When we want to unlock our mobile, we currently have two main methods as a general rule: facial unlocking and the fingerprint reader. In the iPhone, Face ID has been imposed for a long time in the models of its general range and the reader for the SE, but why should the fingerprint reader return? Is the reader really better than Face ID?
This reader is one of the implementations with the best performance of all those that Apple has introduced in its mobiles and in recent years, there are more and more failures in Face ID. Therefore, we explain the reasons why Apple should bet much more on the fingerprint reader.
The fingerprint reader wins by a landslide
We could speak without fear of being wrong that the fingerprint reader that Apple has developed is one of the most reliable tools of all those that we find in the iPhone, so in any case, when wanting to see if it is better than Face ID, the answer is more than clear. Yes, the fingerprint reader is better than Face ID, but what makes it better? In reality, the margin of failure that the fingerprint reader can provide, with the number of improvements that we can find in phones like the iPhone SE, is almost nil, so it is very difficult for it to fail us unless that let’s have a burned finger and therefore, the print is not correct. It will also happen when we put it in the wrong way, but if we use this reader correctly, the failure rate is negligible.
Face ID for its part leaves its trail many more failures than the reader, in part caused by the use of accessories such as sunglasses -and some eyeglasses depending on the frame-, a handkerchief and even the one so used until a few months ago, a mask. In the same way, it is one of the most comfortable ways we have when it comes to unlocking the mobile, since we place our finger in a place that we use regularly to use our iPhone, although it could be in a better place, like it happens on iPadson the lock button.
Speed: the trump card of Face ID
However, not everything we see in FaceID is bad, quite the opposite and that is exactly why the fight between it and the fingerprint reader is so tight. Despite the recognition problems that Face ID can present, we must not forget that it is normally an element that causes a faster unlocking of the mobile phone. In normal conditions we find that we simply have to move our finger up and it will quickly recognize us, so access to our mobile will be much faster. the problem will come when Face ID needs the code -something that often happens- to work again or that we have sunglasses or another accessory that covers your face and therefore, this speed, it will not work at all.
Will we see the fingerprint reader on the main iPhones again?
Unless you have an iPhone SE, which does still have a fingerprint reader, currently it is impossible to find an iPhone with a fingerprint reader, so obviously if you want to use one of the latest iPhones and you are a fan of the fingerprint reader there will be no options. This makes us wonder whether or not we can really count on this piece of hardware coming back to Apple phones soon. There are many rumors that have pointed out that Apple is going to introduce the fingerprint reader in the next mobile phones as well. so that it complements with Face ID. It was a tool that was already expected for the iPhone 14 but that finally did not arrive, so in any case, it is a rumor that we do not know how far it will go.
