In iOS 17, this app fully embraces its identity as an essential tool for productivity. There are many improvements that the application has received but without a doubt this is one of the ones that will draw the most attention to users.
The Reminders App and Siri
One of the features that all users like the most Apple ecosystem is the perfect integration of this native application with Siri. You can ask Siri to add things to your shopping list and it will do so without any problem. In addition, you can also share a shopping list with other people, which is very useful, or access your shopping list from different devices; iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Additionally, the Reminders app recently added the ability to create templates, which means you can always start with the same list and save yourself time.
In iOS 17, Reminders has gotten a new specific function to create shopping lists, This feature is available on iPad OS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS Sonoma. Now, the application is capable of Automatically sort your list items into categories, which greatly simplifies the purchasing experience.
How does the application know that it is the shopping list?
At first, we might think that it is necessary to change the name of the list from “Shopping” to “Shopping List” to activate the function, but to everyone’s surprise, the application turns out to be smarter than we thought.
Any list you create can be considered a shopping list, which is useful if you have separate lists for different stores and want items to be sorted automatically. The Reminders app allows you to assign a list type, either standard or shopping. This is accomplished by tapping the three ellipses button in the top right corner of the list, if you’re on iPhone or iPad.
By setting the list type to “shopping”, When you add common items to your shopping list, Reminders will automatically categorize them into groups, helping to simplify the shopping experience. It is also possible to manually rearrange the categories if you want them to match the order of the store, or even create new categories. Additionally, you can opt for a column view which groups the categories vertically.
In the first beta version of iOS 17, Shopping categories include: beverages, fresh produce, meat, frozen foods, wines, beers and spirits, bread and cereals, pasta, rice and legumes, dairy, eggs and cheese, sauces and condiments, personal care and health, and household items. By default, Reminders hides categories that do not contain at least one item, although you can disable this feature if you prefer to see all categories when planning your purchases.
If the application cannot identify which category an item belongs to, it will group it into a category called “Others”. Although you have the option to manually drag items out of this category to sort them in the right place or even create your own custom categories.
