Apple continues working on devices with folding screens and the MacBook we all dream of could soon be a reality
Apple’s MacBooks have not evolved for many years, it is really not something attributable to Apple exclusively, laptops have barely changed in the last decade. The previous one revolution in design Apple gave it precisely by presenting the MacBook Air in that famous Steve Jobs keynote with an envelope. And the next big revolution could come in 2026.
According to the latest industry information, Apple is preparing a completely revolutionary MacBook with a large folding screen. Ming-Chi Kuo has shared new details about which will be the MacBook Pro of our dreams.
This will be the MacBook Pro of the future
Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the best analysts and his information is based on Apple’s supply chain, this means that there are suppliers who are already sending components to the company. As he reveals, this is all we can expect from the MacBook of the future with foldable screen:
- Folding screen: This MacBook will have a foldable screen, so the keyboard will disappear. It had been rumored to have a 20.3-inch screen, but an 18.8-inch panel is also being considered. When folded, the first would have the size of a current 14-15-inch MacBook, with the second panel the size would be that of a 13-14-inch MacBook.
- A panel without folds: Apple intends to offer a foldable screen in which the crease is not noticeable, completely smooth without wrinkles. It is something that has conditioned the development of the product, since such technology is not yet available.
- Very high cost: offering a folding screen in which the fold is not noticeable in addition to a high-quality visa makes the cost of the device skyrocket, it is said that the panel alone costs between 600 and 650 dollars and that the cost of the hinge is between 200 and 250.
- M5 chip: This supposed MacBook would have an M5 series chip, which Apple will presumably present at the end of next year.
- Launch in 2026– This MacBook model is expected to be released sometime in 2026.
Does a MacBook with a foldable screen make sense?
Apple has not launched any foldable device at the moment, although if this information is true this MacBook could be the first, although I don’t know if calling it a MacBook would make sense. We are facing a device that It could look like a large iPad that folds in half.
I don’t know if a device like this makes much sense, after all. The keyboard is important in a laptop and with this MacBook with a folding screen we would have a virtual keyboard. Unless Apple releases some sort of accessory that sits over the screen.
It certainly seems a very futuristic device, taking into account everything that Kuo has commented. And perhaps it could be a kind of hybrid device between an iPad and a MacBook. Although it will not be for all audiences, it will easily could approach $4,000 if you use such expensive components. And all while waiting for the future foldable iPhone.
