the mobiles with the highest screen brightness

AMOLED panels, 120 and even 144 Hz, high-flying resolutions, curves, straight lines… Mobile phone screens continue to be absolute protagonists of smartphones and one of the most important points when deciding on a purchase. Now, in recent times, small advances in brightness have been applied that, although they may go unnoticed, are more relevant than we think.

Recently has leaked the peak brightness capacity of the future OPPO Find X6 Pro reaching 2,400 nits. A real madness compared to what is currently there, although the high range already boasts good brightness in several cases, consequently leaving the mid-range behind.

More ‘nits’ and less ‘hertz’ for sunny days

As we already said, the latest flagships of telephone manufacturers are counting on peak brightness capabilities well in excess of 1,500 nits. It is true that not in all of them it is applied to the entire length and width of the panel, nor is it continuous for reasons of energy efficiency, but it is a great help in complicated situations.

Taking your mobile on the street on a sunny day can not only be something to avoid due to the dangers that heat implies for a mobile, but it also means not being able to see the contents of the screen well. It is precisely at these moments that mobile phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro activate that maximum brightness.

As we explained previously, It is not something that can be maintained constantly, but it is appreciated that they are exposed on time to be able to interact with the screen without having to strain your eyes, without having to put your hand on it or go into the shade. And in any case, as standard these mobiles already offer a brightness of at least 1,000 nits, which is much higher than what is customary in lower ranges.

As standard, few mid-range mobiles reach 1,000 nits. And far from it offer the ability to increase it outdoors.

It is not uncommon to find smartphone models with too little brightness that is around 400-600 nits. Hey, it is more than enough indoors and not to mention when there is hardly any light. However, the term “mobile” implies that we can take them anywhere and there are many occasions in which their usefulness is reduced due to their low brightness.

Obviously there are exceptions. See as a clear example models like the POCO F4 with a maximum brightness that reaches 1,300 nits. However, it is not often that we find similar cases. AND If we talk about the economic range, the picture is even worse.

In the same way that 90 and 120 Hz (and even 144 Hz in some cases) were standardized for mid-range mobiles, we believe and hope that the improvements in brightness will also reach these. Otherwise, it would continue excessively limiting the versatility of smartphones. In fact, without statistics in hand due to the absence of such specific studies, I would dare to say that the majority of users with mid-range mobiles would prefer a bright screen rather than one with 120 Hz refresh rate.

And it would no longer be asking for the same as in the highest range and not even that sustained maximum brightness for a few seconds/minutes, since higher standard gloss It could already be more than enough to, as they say, “get by”. Personally I have been able to test a few cheap and medium-range mobiles in recent times and I fully attest that it is the pending issue in these ranges. Probably the oldest.
