Porsche has just lifted the veil on its new electric car: the Taycan Turbo GT. This is Porsche’s most powerful car, which can do even better than the Tesla Model S Plaid. But for twice as much!
We had been waiting for it for many months. We could see him on certain circuits, breaking speed and performance records. Here is Porsche’s new electric car: the Taycan Turbo GT, with more than 1,100 hp of power and 1,340 Nm of torque. What could be better than the Tesla Model S Plaid and its 1,020 hp? It all depends in which area… but above all, it is Porsche’s most powerful production car, thermal or electric.
Two versions… very powerful
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT takes the basis of the newly restyled model. It will be available in two different versions as we can read in the press release: classic (already very powerful), or equipped with the Weissach package. Enough to increase performance, with a fairly drastic reduction in weight… since the rear seat disappears with this package. Enough to take the car from a 4-seater to a 2-seater. This saves 75 kg compared to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
With this package, the performance is indeed breathtaking: 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 2.2 seconds (2.3 seconds without the package) with a maximum speed of 305 km/h (390 km/h without the package). package). The two versions announce a power of 815 kW (1,108 hp) in total, in particular thanks to an additional power boost of 120 kW (163 hp) for 10 seconds.
Note that the Weissach package also includes an aerodynamic carbon wing, improving the car’s handling.
Two records stolen from Tesla
All this excess power makes it possible to break two records: that of the fastest production electric car on the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit, in 1:27:87 minutes. For comparison, the Tesla Model S Plaid achieved a time of 1:28.20 minutes with the Unplugged Performance package.
On the Nurburgring, the new Porsche achieved a time of 7:07.55 minutes. Once again, a record, since the Tesla Model S Plaid completed the lap in 7:25:231 minutes. With, however, a higher top speed, announced at 322 km/h. And it’s also 26 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S Sport.
We see here that power is not everything, and that the Porsche allows itself to pass in front of the Tesla thanks to numerous improvements, to be faster in the turns. Braking is also there since the brake discs are ceramic reinforced with carbon fiber.
Battery life and fast charging
Be careful, however, with the autonomy which inevitably decreases a little with all this power, since the manufacturer announces 555 km on the WLTP mixed cycle. Compare with the range of 634 km for the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and 680 km for the least powerful Porsche Taycan. In any case, recharging will be fast, thanks to the 800 volt architecture, allowing you to go from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.
WLTP consumption (taking into account losses linked to recharging) is between 20.6 and 21.3 kWh / 100 km with the Weissach package, and between 20.7 and 21.7 kWh / 100 km in the classic version.
Price and availability
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will come with fairly rich equipment, but not all options. As usual, with the Stuttgart manufacturer, you have to go through the paid options to get the “real” price of the car. In any case, Porsche announces a price of 240,000 euros including tax in Germany and from 249,188 euros in France.
Opposite, the Tesla Model S Plaid starts at 109,990 euros, with lower performance, but greater autonomy and 5 real seats. But it’s not a Porsche.
