Ayaneo, the company known for its many portable gaming PCs, has just announced its latest product: the Next Lite. This is a new portable game console, but above all the first to run on SteamOS.
In recent months, fans of portable consoles have been spoiled. After the ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go, the new Steam Deck OLED or the recent MSI Claw, it is now Ayaneo's turn to launch a new device: the Next Lite.
This new console has the distinction of being the first, outside of the Steam Deck, to use SteamOS as an operating system. Ayaneo also says it will offer “exceptional cost-effectiveness” to help “lower the barrier to entry”suggesting that Ayaneo could aim to take on its rivals with a competitive price.
The Ayaneo Next Lite is more affordable than the competition
The company says its new handheld console running SteamOS “inherits the Explore design language and ergonomic NEXT Grip handles.” It also hasa 7-inch screen with 800p definitiona large capacity 47Wh battery, a Hall sensing joystick and linear motors on the X axis. Although other hardware specifications are not mentioned, we imagine that this new device uses an AMD Ryzen processor, as other Ayaneo consoles from the company have done in the past.
Fans of Ayaneo products may recognize the technical specifications from another model and it turns out that the current Next Pro has the same IPS screen and battery size. The latter is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, which is two years old now. Hopefully the Next Lite will be equipped with a newer chip, like the Ryzen 7 7840U (used in the Ayaneo Air 1S) or even the latest Ryzen 7 8840U.
In addition to its technical characteristics, the Next Lite will be available in several colors. Like all Ayaneo products, the Next Lite will be financed by crowdsourcing, there is therefore no guarantee that it will be commercialized, even if previous crowdfunding has been a real success. Prices and launch information are therefore not yet known, but AYANEO says the NEXT LITE will be a budget-friendly portable device designed as an entry-level option for PC gaming.
