During the trial between the FTC and Microsoft regarding the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King, internal documents were published. We learn in particular that the American publisher has known of the existence of the Switch 2 since December 2022. According to these emails, the future Nintendo console will be as powerful as the PS4 and the Xbox One.
For several months now, rumors surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 have been multiplying on the web. However, the existence of the console became a reality at the beginning of September 2023. Indeed, several reliable sources have claimed that BigN secretly presented the Switch 2 to several developers during Gamescom, the video game show organized in Cologne.
According to the first information shared here and there, we can expect a clear improvement in performance. Indeed, the Switch 2 would likely be as powerful as the PS4 and Xbox One. But what we mainly remember is that the console would be compatible with Nvidia’s super-sampling technology: DLSS. In other words, the Switch 2 could offer a smooth experience with a framerate that can exceed 60 FPS on the majority of titles.

The Switch 2 as powerful as the PS4 according to these Activision documents
We learn in particular that Activision executives, including its CEO Bobby Kotick, met with Nintendo officials in December 2022 to discuss the next Nintendo Switch. Thus, in a series of internal emails, Chris Schnakenberg, responsible for strategy and relations with Activision partners, produced a report on the information shared by Nintendo.
These documents, mostly redacted for obvious confidentiality reasons, still leaked some information: “Given the close proximity to Gen8 platforms in terms of performance and our previous offerings on PS4/Xbox One, it’s reasonable to assume that we could do something compelling for the NG Switch. Next-generation Switch)”.
Activision therefore confirms the first data published on the Switch 2 and in turn announces performances close to the PS4 and Xbox One. Not enough to delight fans who were expecting a clear graphic evolution with the Switch 2. As a reminder, the latest rumors suggest a release of the Nintendo Switch 2 for the end of 2024.
