The OnePlus portfolio has received very interesting mobile phones this year such as the OnePlus 12, the renewal of its top smartphone, and recently presented its entry-level range: the OnePlus Nord CE4, which at the moment does not have global availability. However, the Chinese manufacturer made the hype grow three days ago with a battery that presumably will open a “new era”.
It was presented last night in China, the firm’s native country, and the truth is that, at least on paper, it promises a lot. It’s about the “Glacier Battery”, with an outstanding capacity, thinner and above all, resistant to charging cycles. We tell you its characteristics and when it will hit the market.
This is the new OnePlus battery
The OnePlus news made a lot of noise, not in vain, these last few years have not brought very significant advances when it comes to the autonomy of smartphones. It is true that comparing it with what we had a decade ago, they have improved, especially in capacity, even so, the Chinese firm has wanted to take a giant step.
At dawn, OnePlus presented the aforementioned battery that promises to revolutionize the autonomy of its smartphones. It’s no joke looking at its specifications: They have managed to fit a 6,100 mAh battery in the usual space of a 5,000 mAh one.
The manufacturer belonging to the BBK consortium has shared on the social network Weibo all the information, in different publications. Of course, during the presentation, OnePlus wanted to maintain a tone of mockery towards itself, commenting that this battery is the Answer to common problems like “battery anxiety” or dependence on external batteries.
The new battery has been manufactured, according to the brand, in a “bionic material of silicon-carbon high capacity”. Something very similar to what Honor has been proposing for two generations. It provides an energy density of 763 Wh/L.
In addition, it comments that its Glacier Battery technology contains 23.1% more energy than standard graphite batteries. Therefore, it allows batteries to be manufactured smaller and more powerfulwhich is undoubtedly a great advance to enjoy greater autonomy on our mobile phones.
As if that were not enough, OnePlus boasts other benefits: fast charging is also improved, reaching 100 W. How much percentage does that translate to? It can go from 1% to 100% in just 36 minutes. He also comments that after using it for four years, it is expected to retain more than 80% of its original capacity.
It would easily surpass the battery of the iPhone. Let’s remember that Apple promises 80% after 1,000 cycles, which would be just over two years (considering that we charge our phone every day). Even so, we will have to wait to see it in action: it will arrive on the company’s next mobile phones, although we do not know if these will arrive on the global market.
