The new Qualcomm SoC is probably one of the components that we most wanted to see, since the company promised that it would be a type of hardware that would come with great advantages over those offered by its competitors, but apparently, the Snapdragon X Elite does not measure up in terms of performance. And one of the first analyzes that we have been able to see, based on the Asus Vivobook S 15 OLED, is not too good.
Many companies usually do a lot of marketing to promote their products, but there are times when what they offer does not live up to the expectations of the users since most of the things that are promised are not fulfilled. This seems to be the case of Snapdragon X Elitewhich after an analysis has shown that it is not capable of truly competing against its main competitors, remaining far behind them.
An SoC that is not up to par with its competitors
One of the great novelties of this year as we well know are all the new processors and SoC that are going to be launched on the market by many of the large companies in the sector, and by Qualcommhe Snapdragon X Elite It is the most anticipated. And this SoC has been announced as a clear competitor compared to what Intel can offer us in laptops, for example, but in reality, in most tests it falls far behind these, which is quite worrying.
Most of these tests have been carried out using a Vivobook S 15 OLED, one of the new Asus laptops that incorporates the Snapdragon maximum frequency of 3.4 GHz, which also includes 16 GB of LPDDR5x at 8448 MT/s. It should be noted that this configuration is the most basic that we can find in the new Qualcomm processors, but the biggest difference with the other versions is that it has a frequency 0.4 GHz lower, it does not incorporate boost, which in the others is 4 .1 GHz, and also has a GPU with 3.8 TFLOPS instead of 4.6 in its higher versions.
Battery life leaves a lot to be desired
One of the most important factors of a laptop is the battery, and in this field the new SoC of Qualcomm It presents certain problems, and that is that the ASUS laptop incorporates a 70 Wh battery, which improves the duration compared to some Intel and AMD devices, but falls behind compared to Apple’s MacBook Air 15 M3. And in this field, the Apple laptop is capable of offering 40% longer battery life on average, being smaller (66.5 Wh).
We can also highlight that in more basic tasks the Snapdragon X Elite It offers a charge for the battery that holds well, but in tasks that require greater performance, the duration decreases exaggeratedly.
Performance in most tests is not adequate
In general terms, we know that the overall performance of a laptop is not very great unless it incorporates a processor specifically created to offer the best possible performance in all possible tasks, and the Snapdragon X Elitedoes not do this.
This SoC offers good results in multi-core performance tests, which shows that it has adequate power, but in other tests carried out such as video encoding, file extraction or document conversion, laptops that incorporate an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H They surpass it by quite a bit, offering 50% higher performance.
In games, obviously, it works worse than we could imagine
The new laptops that include this type of SoC are obviously not created for gaming, it is something that we all took into account, but in general, the performance offered in these cases is also lower than that of others that include Intel configurations.
As we can imagine, most games do not work for obvious reasons, but those that do, most of the time are not able to offer 30 FPS with a 1920×1080 resolution with all graphic parameters at minimum.
