As you might expect, Microsoft released its first major update for Windows 11 on Tuesday. It has now been several months since Insiders were treated to the new features, and these are now available to all users. This update includes new security, productivity, accessibility and other gaming features. Notably, there are a handful of new features and enhancements focused on improving the existing Windows 11 experience by fleshing out areas like the Start menu and taskbar with more capabilities.
Unfortunately, among all the new features that we had already detailed, not all of them will be immediately available. Indeed, File Explorer tabs and taskbar overflow will come later. According to Microsoft, they should be launched at a later date, in October.
How to install Windows 11 22H2?
Windows 11 users can go now to Windows Update to see if the new version is already waiting for them to be downloaded and installed. As with every update, the 22H2 release is taking a phased approach, which means that the update will not be offered to everyone immediately, but gradually over the next few weeks. The American giant must ensure that there are no major bugs.
To update, follow the guide below:
- Open the Start menu and look for Windows Update Settings
- If the update is available, it should appear.
- Then click on Download and Install. Otherwise, click check for updates.
If you are still using Windows 10, know that you are also possible to upgrade directly to 22H2 via Windows Update. However, the system requirements for this release have not changed, which means that if you weren’t eligible for last year’s Windows 11 release, you won’t be offered the 2022 update either. Incidentally, Microsoft has once again pointed out that if your current device is not eligible for Windows 11, be aware that Windows 10 will be supported until October 14, 2025.
