Do you think Meta is the most prominent company in the Metaverse? The United States Army project is even more outstanding.
Meta, as you may well know, completely changed its strategy to focus especially on creating the ultimate Metaverse. Currently, we have different platforms of this kind, but the truth is that they have not managed to be that different and unique digital universe. For a few months, the investment items of Meta have focused especially on the creation of a differential proposal. After all, the classic social media model may have run its course or not be as profitable as the future.
Now, is it the company that is closest to achieving this sort of brand-new digital dimension? The truth is that no. Once again, the defense and military sectors are practically at the same level due to the innovation capacity of the sector. The creation of the metaverses is not a simple matter, far from it, but this has not made the United States Army back down. Once again, we have been able to verify how the Special Forces of the most ‘doped’ country at the military level have projects of this kind.
Let us see, therefore, what are the keys to explain the work of the United States military in the facet of the Metaverse, how far-reaching innovations have been achieved in recent years and, of course, what we can expect from now on. What could be the future lines of research and, above all, what is known about the projects that are underway?
The Metaverse present in the United States Army
The Synthetic Training Environment (STE) is the name the United States has given to the Metaverse research facility. In development since 2017, its main objective is to replace the other present mechanisms that are related to simulation with the aim of creating a new proposal capable of bring together the performance of all of them. It is, therefore, a very interesting option from the point of view of innovation.
Among the training objectives that are raised, it is of vital importance that all the maps are the same. For this reason, a tank driving training should encounter the same obstacles present in the terrain as one in which the user must navigate on foot. The presence of trees, rocks or any other element should be present on all interactive maps. In this way, similar mission simulations could be carried out in order to determine more accurate conclusions.
One of the first challenges is to introduce all the data in the cloud and its subsequent management by users. In a mission in which there could be a whole series of profiles connected, it will be especially necessary to have enough power so that there are no interferences or, of course, cuts in the data supply. The goal is power design a Metaverse that digitizes the entire real worlda task that will not be easy to achieve due to the large volume of information required.
According to the Venture Beat portal, it could be available under open source as of 2030. However, it is important to point out that we are dealing with a technology specially designed to offer a differential return over a slightly longer term due to current limitations in setting up the entire map.
