If you notice something different the next time you open the Google application or the news section of your mobile launcher, it’s not your imagination: Google is testing a new design for cards with widgets that display weather information and other details.
These cards, which appear below the search engine in the Google application, They are bigger now and they gain a prominent button to change their settings which, incidentally, lets us know what the official name of the function is: “your space.”
larger cards
The Google application includes two rows of cards and buttons below the search engine. The first of them is strictly related to searches and invites us to translate texts with the camera, search for photos on our mobile phone, identify songs and similar tasks, while the second is a row of widgets or cards with weather information and, optionally, others.
This row has a name: it is called “your space” and has gone from displaying small widgets to much larger cards. You can see the difference in the following image.
It is a mainly visual change that in some cases will not show us more text (the weather card, for example, continues to show temperature and location), but in others it does seem to allow an extra line of text which will be useful if we have active sports results cards. With more information or not, the truth is that it makes the final result somewhat less claustrophobic than with the previous design.
Along the way comes a new options button at the end of the row of space, where we will be able to adjust, as always, if we want to see the quality of the air, our actions, sports results and the weather. This button design was simply a pencil icon.
It is not the first time that Google alternates between more or less “big-headed” Material You elements and a good example of this is found in the Google application itself, which has included an extra-large search bar for some time.
