If we talk about video games, we undoubtedly have to talk about Nintendo, a pioneering company in this sector. Soon we will be able to review the history of the company in an unprecedented way, according to Shigeru Miyamoto, father of the Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda sagas. The next October 2, 2024 will open its doors on Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan.
We all know the modern history of the Japanese company, but it goes beyond consoles. You should know that the company was founded in September 1889 and created different entertainment solutions.
Actually, if we stop to think about it, the relationship with consoles and video games is a small part of the company’s history. Well, a very successful part that changed the world forever. Now we can review the history of the company in its official museum, which is located in a very special place.
Nintendo announces when it will finally open its own museum
The origin of the current company is due to Gunpei Yokoi and his Game & Watch consoles. We remember that these small portable consoles with a single game came to Yokoi’s mind when he was coming home from work. It was thanks to a man in a suit who was playing with his digital calculator, who gave him the idea of creating a portable console with a game.
Inside the Nintendo Museum We will have different rooms and exhibits. There is one entirely dedicated to the games that Nintendo created before entering the world of video games. But the most striking is the one with the giant controllers from different generations of the company’s consoles that you have to step on to play.
The company offers many exhibitions dedicated to specific Nintendo series. It also has exhibits on the evolution of art or graphics over the years. As it could not be otherwise, the main protagonists are the Mario and Zelda sagasthe most important of the company.
Another interesting part of the museum is eight small rooms with Ultra Machine baseball pitching machines. The rooms have a retro Japanese house style with interactive objects that you have to hit with your bats.
There’s one very interesting room that’s a 1970s experiment that turned a bowling alley into a shooting gallery called Laser Clay. It has a similar setup to Zapper & Scope SP, using a modern take on the Zapper designs for the NES and Super Famicom Superscope.
It includes the museum, a Hanafuda touchscreen game for beginners. Also included is a multiplayer mobile version of the Japanese card game Hyakunin Isshu. To play it you will need a smart device provided by Nintendo and an entire floor with a shared touchscreen.
The museum includes a shop with exclusive products, a café that specializes in specialty burgers, and a set of display cases depicting the company’s history.
The location of the Nintendo Museum has not been chosen at random. It is located in Kyoto, Japan, in a historic card manufacturing plant that now happens to be the company’s museum. In short, it looks like it will be a brutal experience that you won’t want to leave.
