A new player has finally arrived in the processor market, in this case, for the laptop segment. After the initial presentation, we now have the first list of laptops with processors Qualcomm Snapdragon. In addition, these systems will be compatible with Copilot+, Microsoft’s new artificial intelligence available only in the Windows 11 operating system.
The new Snapdragon X Elite will have a total of 12 cores at different working frequencies, both maximum and Boost. These processors include an Adreno GPU with up to 4.6 TFLOPs and a total of 45 NPUs for artificial intelligence. Furthermore, we have a Snapdragon X Plus 10 cores with an Adreno GPU of 3.8 TFLOPs and also 45 NPUs.
These chips seek to position themselves as a perfect solution for any type of user and need. They offer good performance for everyday tasks, relatively powerful graphics for light games, and power for artificial intelligence. In addition, they are presented as highly efficient chips allowing high autonomy.
Great power and lots of artificial intelligence
Over the past few years, Microsoft has worked on improving support for ARM architecture chips. Windows 11 offers special support for this design, something that can be perfectly seen in the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X. These new chips, among others, offer support for Copilot+ technology, being the first to support this new AI.
The NPUs of the Snapdragon
Above all, it stands out that Copilot+ is an exclusive technology (for now) for the new Snapdragon
We will have available up to 15 portable systems based on the new Snapdragon X Elite and up to 7 solutions based on the Snapdragon X Plus. This makes a catalog of more than 20 laptops in different formats and with a wide range of prices.
The models based on the new Snapdragon X Elite are the following:
- Asus Vivobook S15
- Lenovo ThinkPad T14S and Yoga Slim 7x
- Microsoft Surface Laptop 13, Laptop 15 and Pro
- Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge (16″) and Book4 Edge (14″)
- Acer Swift 14 AI
- Dell Inspiron 14, Inspiron 14 Plus, Latitude 7455 and XPS 13
- HP EliteBook Ultra and OmniBook
In addition to these high-performance systems, we will also have a good catalog of systems based on the Snapdragon X Plus, such as:
- Asus Vivobook S15
- Microsoft Surface Pro and Laptop 13
- Dell Latitude 5455, Latitude 7455 and Inspiron 14 Plus
- Acer Swift 14 AI
We do not have, at the moment, a price for these new laptops based on these Qualcomm processors. The release date has not been revealed either, although they should begin to arrive on the market in the coming days. It is possible that they will begin to be marketed after Computex 2024, the technology fair that will be held in Taiwan in 2 weeks.
It seems pretty obvious that models based on the X Elite will be more expensive than the X Plus. Everything will depend on the additional features, such as storage, amount of RAM, type of screen and connectivity, mainly.
