This week Apple introduced to the world iOS 17 and after seeing the Keynote, we tested it thoroughly to discover all the changes. Although there are a few functions with which we feel a certain sensation of déjà vu because the reality is that they were already present in Android, with others we got long teeth (although it is true that in the first version some were not yet available): these are iOS 17 features I’d like to see on Android.
contact posters
Until now we could complete the profile of a contact that we saw when he called us, but with iOS 17 Apple gives a twist allowing Let us be the ones who create our own token (called poster) to share with our contacts. Poster is not only valid for standard calls, but also for third-party applications.
Besides, with a poster you earn in optionssince for effects it is quite reminiscent of the lock screen configuration process in the sense that you can add effects, as well as play with fonts and colors.
It would be interesting if the contact posters came to Android to be able to customize our file, standardizing the experience both between ecosystems and for applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Hangouts, Messages, Zoom, Teams, among others.
Separate profiles in the browser
Some people have two different phones for professional and personal use, other people opt for a terminal with two cards and then there are people like me who have a phone for everything but several email accounts (among them, the professional one). But in the end, when we browse within the same device using Google, we are likely to do it through an account and this is where it all gets mixed up. And if we do it without counting, it mixes the same.
That’s why Safari, Apple’s native browser, allows keep navigation separate between work and personal profileseach with its own history, passwords, extensions, tabs, cookies and bookmarks, among others.
Taking into account the weight of Google in browsing and emails, one of the most necessary implementations is bring the Chrome desktop experience closer to other devices like mobile with this function.
Sensitive content warning
Before sending photos and videos, iOS 17 will offer the option to blur the preview before choosing to view the content, something that is especially useful for sensitive content. This feature will be integrated into Messages, AirDrop, Posters, FaceTime, and third-party apps and falls within the iOS communication security suite.
I hope this feature comes to Android as soon as possible and it can be used for applications such as WhatsApp or the private messages of certain applications… so that some people feel free to blur their full or partial nudes (insert an eggplant emoji here) when sharing them so that the unexpected doesn’t surprise you of the situation.
Bonus: Namedrop
What yes, what Android already had the option of passing data by bringing mobiles closer via NFC and Android Beam (as well as apps like Bump or Popl), the problem is that Google decided to abandon Beam in 2018, so it’s no longer a possibility now.
Apple has presented it as one of the novelties of iOS 17 and seeing it in action, in practice wirelessly sharing a contact natively is something very useful: you just have to bring your iPhone closer to another iPhone or Apple Watch to pass Those posters, phone numbers, emails…I wish this feature would return to Android within the framework NearbyShare.
