Sony has just launched a pair of noise-cancelling wireless headphones as an alternative to its premium XM4 range: the LinkBuds S. They have a few points to make, especially with this price drop. They now go from 199.99 euros to just 143.99 euros at Boulanger.
After very questionable LinkBuds, Sony is betting this time on a new version of wireless headphones: the LinkBuds S. Unlike the classic version, the S model is betting more on an in-ear format and noise reduction. These headphones are in the high-end segment, and are therefore priced close to 200 euros. Luckily, today they are nearly 30% off and becoming a more feasible solution.
What to remember about Sony LinkBuds S
- A lightweight and comfortable pair of headphones
- Good sound quality
- The presence of the LDAC codec
Marketed recently at a price of 199 euros, the Sony LinkBuds S wireless headphones are now offered at 159.99 euros on the Boulanger site, but once in the basket a 10% discount applies for a final price. of 143.99 euros.

Headphones that focus on comfort and lightness
Since the XM3, Sony has greatly reduced the weight and shape of its headphones. The Japanese firm wanted to reduce the volume of this new reference, the LinkBuds S, as much as possible. According to the brand, they have a volume 41% less than the WF-1000XM4 and a weight 33% lighter. They are therefore particularly comfortable and hold rather well in the ear.
The difference with the classic model is that this version relies on silence, hence the name LinkBuds S. They offer better passive isolation thanks to their in-ear format. This model even has an active noise reduction function. If they are far from reaching the level of the WF-1000XM4 in terms of active noise reduction, the LinkBuds S will filter out low noise. A transparency mode is also included to stay tuned to the environment and can even be set to twenty levels.
A beautiful sound signature
On the audio side, Sony’s headphones feature 5mm diameter dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets. The bass is there, but the mids are more highlighted. We find the simple codecs the SBC and the AAC, but the LDAC. They are therefore capable of ensuring wireless transmission via Bluetooth up to a speed of 990 kb/s and of restoring frequencies from 20 Hz in the bass to 40,000 Hz in the treble.
As for the space-saving case, it offers an additional 14 hours to go up to 20 hours of listening time with noise reduction activated. The earphones themselves should last 6 hours with noise reduction activated and up to 9 hours without. During our test, they lasted 4:15, a fair autonomy which is explained by their small size of the headphones which house a small battery. Finally, 20 minutes are enough to recover more than 60% autonomy and 43 minutes to go from 0 to 100%.
