Apple has registered at least five different names for its operating system.
A few days ago we discovered to our surprise that Apple had registered the trademark “xrProOS” with the New Zealand Patent and Trademark Office – and in other countries before – under the name of a shell company to use it as possible operating system nomenclature of the Apple Reality Pro.
However, Apple had already trademarked the name “xrOS” for some time. In fact, the nomenclature “xrOS” it was also found in the internal code of an Apple application. But there is still more!
The 5 possible names of the operating system of Apple’s Reality Pro
Manzana has registered multiple nomenclatures over the last few months so that you can use them as a name for the Reality Pro operating system at your convenience if you are not satisfied with one of them. As indicated from 9to5mac its name is most likely “xrOS”, which stands for “Extended Reality Operating System”, but there are other options in the deck.
These are the five possible names that the operating system of the headset from Apple VR and AR:
- xrOS
- realityOS
- realOS
- realityproOS
- xrProOS
In Bloomberg they cling to the idea that Apple will use the “xrOS” nomenclature and it seems the most reasonable option.
“Internally, the company has recently changed the name of the operating system from ‘rOS’ to ‘xrOS’ according to people who asked not to be identified because the project is still ongoing.”
Apple Reality Pro: a virtual reality and augmented reality headset that will be presented at WWDC23 in June
Additionally, the company with the bitten apple logo has also registered other names in relation to its mixed reality headsets such as “Reality One”, “Reality Pro” and “Reality Processor”.
These are at least five of the possible names that Apple will use for the operating system of its mixed reality glasses. Perhaps the company has used other shell companies to register other nomenclatures and they have not been publicly disclosed. But “rOS” and “xrOS” seem like the most likely choices in line with the name of the rest of the operating systems in the ecosystem of Apple products.
