The iPad Pro with M4 Chip is already in the hands of customers, and also of the most daring people like the iFixit team. They have put the iPad Pro M4 and Apple Pencil Pro through a total disassembly to see everything inside: the M4 Chip, the battery, the new haptic motor of the Pencil Pro…
In this disassembly, a novelty has been found in this iPad Pro that allows it to be just as resistant as the previous model with the M2 Chip and, at the same time, much thinner.
Opening the iPad Pro M4 to see its interior
The iFixit team has started disassembling the iPad Pro M4, and to do so they have to put it on a heat plate at 67 degrees centigrade to undo the glue on the screen.
Immediately afterwards, and with the help of a suction cup, they pull up the screen and the surrounded on all sides by spikes. Thus, they can go along the sides to remove all the sealing and, finally, lift the screen.
With the screen already out, once all the flexes and connecting cables have been disconnected, the attention is drawn to the four large speakers which has the iPad Pro M4 in its four corners. It also greatly highlights the battery composed of two large blocks on each side.
In the center there is a plate to improve rigidity
The central part of the iPad is where the processor is usually found, in this case the M4 Chip. So from iFixit they are preparing to unscrew a rigid plate with a single function: to give rigidity to the iPad to prevent it from bending in normal use after reducing its thickness.
A metal band to give the iPad greater hardness and resistance against accidents, such as sitting on it or subjecting it to great pressure inside a backpack or suitcase.
An easier to remove battery that increases the ease of changing it
In order to get to the processor, you must first remove the two-body battery. On this occasion, and as a great advantage according to iFixityou just have to stretch some strips of glue to get it out. No need to dismantle the board of the processor. A great advance for repairability and subsequent change after wear and tear over the years.
We get to the heart of the iPad, the M4 Chip
The last step of this iPad Pro teardown is to get to the M4 Chip. After removing the last screws and taking off a sheet of thermal paste which serves to dissipate heat. It seems incredible that a part that takes up so little space inside the iPad is so powerful.
The Apple Pencil Pro is a work of microengineering
We couldn’t forget the Apple Pencil Pro that is surprising users so much. While iFixit is happy that the iPad Pro M4 is easier to repair, the opposite is true with the Apple Pencil Pro. There is no repair possible, and to see its interior, you literally have to open it from top to bottom.
Inside, the new Taptic Engine stands out in the upper part, which provides us with vibrations and haptic sensations when performing actions with the Pencil. This is especially noticeable in the pressing gestures to launch actions on the screen. Also when you double tap to switch from the current tool or brush to the eraser.
In the central part of the Apple Pencil Pro we find the magnets and the charging coil. This moved to the side to allow loading even with the iPad Pro having the front camera in the same part where the Apple Pencil is positioned. Reason why the Apple Pencil 2 is not compatible with the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models.
Finally, they access the processor and gyroscope of the Apple Pencil Pro. Another mini logic board which has similarities with that of the iPad Pro. After all, there is a lot of technology in there. From pressure and inclination detection to a location chip. It certainly leaves you speechless.
It’s always exciting to see how Apple products advance and improve both inside and out. In this look inside the iPad Pro M4 we have learned the secret to remain as resistant as the previous model and an improvement in the level of repairability. What has surprised you the most?
