Not all robberies go well. Even less so when Apple devices such as AirTags or AirPods are involved. And you don’t have to go very far, since what happened Last week in Madrid with a tourist bus is the best example.
Just as They relate In El Mundo, at least four individuals participated in a robbery in which they achieved a loot of around 15,000 euros including backpacks, perfumes, cash, cell phones and headphones. And yes, AirPods included, which were the key to the subsequent arrest.
AirPods were vital in locating the thieves
Last week, a tourist bus stopped in Madrid’s San Blas neighborhood to enjoy dinner. Correctly parked and waiting for the tourists to return, the driver of the vehicle was absent for a few minutes. It is not specified how many minutes, but it was just long enough for at least three people to completely ransack the bus.
Once the driver returned and realised what had happened, he called the authorities to report the theft. The Madrid Municipal Police arrived at the scene, accompanied by a SAMUR unit, as the driver had probably suffered an anxiety attack due to nerves.
Normally in these situations, the police take statements from both the driver and the passengers. However, one of the tourists, also a victim of the robbery, helped officers pinpoint the location of the thievesAnd not because he was an accomplice or had great intuition, but because he possessed a vital tool: Apple’s ‘Find’ app.
Among the stolen items were several AirPods, one of the few headphones on the market with geolocation capabilities. Therefore, he only had to open the ‘Find’ app on his iPhone and locate his stolen AirPods. With this, the agents managed to reach the place where the thieves had stored the loot and, although the exact location has not been revealed, it is known that they did not leave the city of Madrid.
Thus, the Municipal Police of Madrid managed to arrest four men aged between 28 and 46. Thanks to this, they were able to verify that three of them had several judicial search and arrest warrants for belonging to criminal organizations. Therefore, thanks to some “simple” AirPods, it has been possible to find some pieces of an organized gang.
