Again, in September we will find that some of Apple’s phones cannot be updated. With the consequent loss of all the news that iOS 17 brings, this is not the biggest problem. What most users are scared of is what is going to happen from now on with their mobile and above all, the enormous value that this phone is going to lose.
What iPhone models are not going to be updated?
The arrival of iOS 17 has left some iPhone models in the gutter, causing many users to now fear for the future that awaits them using their mobile phone, now without what’s new in the operating system. The models that are not going to be updated to iOS 17 and therefore become ‘obsolete’ in terms of updates are three:
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone X
All of them are phones that have been on the market for six and seven years and obviously respond to Apple’s policy with updates. In this way, if you are a user of these phones, you should know that you will receive sporadically and when problems appear, certain security related updates of the device, although yes, the support they are going to give will be less and less, so perhaps it is better to start thinking about changing to a new mobile.
Those not updated lose their value
The biggest fear, as we explained at the beginning, is of course that with the support (expected, of course) that Apple gives these three models, they will lose a lot of value. Normally, the phones that run out of updates every year from Apple are phones that have been in production for a year or two. For this reason, the only way you can get hold of these mobiles is as a second-hand mobile; and this is where the problems come from.
We are talking about an iPhone when a new model is launched, loses approximately 30% of its initial valuehe. Now, we add to this variable the possibility that this mobile is about 6/7 years old and also there is no possibility of updating to the latest version and iOS. In this case, its price plummets in the second-hand markets.
For this reason, if you have an iPhone 8 or an iPhone X, the best thing you can do if you don’t want to keep them, is to sell it as soon as possible and above all, before the new iPhone models are launched at the end of the summer. When the expected iPhone 15 is presented, we will find that the value of these two models has dropped again and therefore its price will already be ridiculous.
