DBrand, a brand specializing in the sale of personalized shells for consoles, already has a stormy past with Sony. Relations between the two companies are unlikely to improve as DBrand has just launched a PS5 Spider-Man case which strangely resembles the one launched by Sony a few weeks ago.
As you may know, the PS5 will be able to count on a major and particularly anticipated exclusive at the end of 2023, namely Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The Insomniac Games title is due to land on PlayStation 5 from this 20 October 2023.
History of riding on the popularity of the title, Sony launched new facades for the PS5 in Spider-Man 2 colors on September 8, 2023.. Available in very limited quantities, these cases sold at €64.99 each are already out of stock. The same goes for the Spider-Man 2 special edition of the DualSense, a victim of its success.
No matter, the Dbrand company has decided to come to the rescue of users. This company, specializing in the sale of personalized shells for video game consoles, has just announced the launch of “Arachnoplates” cases for the PS5. You might as well not beat around the bush, it is indeed a copy of Sony’s Spider-Man 2 cases, with a few differences in design (the White Spider logo is missing).
Dbrand provokes Sony with PS5 cases in Spider-Man 2 colors
Dbrand makes absolutely no secret of it, as the product description attests: “The manufacturer of [console de jeu vidéo populaire] [Megacorporation] failed to produce sufficient stock of side panels of [jeu vidéo sous licence]. Thanks for letting it go, you [séries d’insultes]”. You would have understood it, you can replace everything in brackets with PS5, Sony and Spider-Man 2. As for insults, let your imagination run wild.
Regarding prices, the Arachnoplates cases are priced at $64.98, or around €60 according to the current conversion rate. We therefore remain on fairly close prices between the official hulls and these alternative panels. As a reminder, Dbrand and Sony already have a rocky past. In February 2021, just 4 months after the launch of the PS5, the company launched pre-orders for personalized black cases for the console.
The company’s communication made noise at the time, since it assured that Sony could not sue it for its products. Of course, the Japanese firm decided to show its teeth in October 2021 by threatening to take Dbrand to court if these plates are not withdrawn from sale. Finally, Dbrand complied. With these new plates inspired by Spider-Man 2, Dbrand is not likely to repair its relations with the Japanese manufacturer.
