Known and recognized for its electric cargo bikes, the Taiwanese brand Tern offers a unique model of its kind, combining a fatbike look and the practicality of a longtail. Here is the Tern Orox Adventure, which, as its name suggests, focuses on versatility to tackle any type of terrain.
Even in 2024, electric bikes manage to reinvent themselves, and in a good way. The manufacturer Tern proves this brilliantly by revealing its Orox Adventure, a unique e-bike with a unique look. As a reminder, the Taiwanese firm is quite simply renowned as one of the best in the cargo bike segment.
We had also tried the Tern GSD S10 LR, an electric longtail which had (almost) everything going for it. This time, the manufacturer pulls out all the stops: the Orox Adventure is a hybrid model combining the practicality of a longtail – it is therefore elongated at the rear – and the versatility of a fatbikeor even a mountain bike due to its enormous tires.
He refuses nothing
In “combining the ruggedness of an MTB mountain bike, the versatility of a trekking bike and the utility of a cargo bike, Orox gives riders the freedom to create their own unique experiences», Estimates the brand in a press release sent to the editorial staff.
What is most striking at first glance are the imposing Schwalbe Johnny Watts tires, available in three sizes according to the customer’s wishes. You will have the choice between 26 inch tires with a section of 5 inches (!) – it’s simply enormous -, 27.5 inch tires with a section of 4 inches, and 29 inches with a section of 2.6 inches.

This all-terrain longtail therefore has abilities that no competitor has. It is not only intended for the city, but also and above all for off-road use, muddy roads or gravel trails. In short, to cycle tourism and family trips. This is even the strength of a longtail: its rear loading capacity is large, whether for carrying belongings or for transporting a child.
The load support also reaches 210 kg on the road, compared to 180 kg on off-road. And to move such weight, Tern didn’t do any lace in terms of engine. You have to count on a Bosch Performance Line CX and its torque of 85 Nm, enough to energize such a machine as it should.
An insane double battery
But the most impressive of the characteristics is to be credited to the double Bosch battery of 800 Wh – 1600 Wh in total. This accumulator was recently revealed by Bosch, which gives the opportunity to specific electric bikes – like the Orox Adventure – to claim insane ranges: 300 km in this case, achieved, we imagine, with Eco mode .
Unsurprisingly, Bosch components are compatible with the Smart System. We have written a complete report on this advanced ecosystem, full of data and made up of very useful security functions (geolocation, alarm, alert in the event of the movement of a suspect), via a subscription available from the Flow application.

Tern has voluntarily abandoned any suspension fork, and this for a very specific reason: no fork of this type is approved to support a weight of 180 kg distributed over a bicycle. Hence the large tires, to absorb the shocks and roughness of the road as much as possible.
In terms of transmission, users will have the choice between two configurations: a Shimano Deore XT 12-speed transmission, or the Rohloff Speedhub 14-speed hub associated with a Gates carbon belt. Finally, count on Magura hydraulic disc brakes, with 4 pistons, and 203 mm discs. Very solid.
Price and availability
Tern promises a wide selection of optional accessories to spruce up your Orox Adventure. In any case, you will have to wait until April to take advantage of it, the month during which it will be officially available. His price ? From 6799 euros. We imagine the version equipped with the Rohloff Speedhub to exceed 7,500 euros.
