A recurring scam
We know: cybercriminals take every opportunity to commit their misdeeds. It is in those that the authorities have alerted again, now, about the scam of the pending fine. This is a recurring scam which has come to act again in the same way as it did in previous times… but which has already had its victims.
The message as such says the following: «An unpaid fine directed towards you or your vehicle has been identified in our Traffic system. To see the notification visit: access to electronic headquarters (it is a link)». That makes, who more who less, feel tempted to click.
«A fine to me? If I don’t have a car; if I have not received a letter. It has to be a mistake, ”anyone will think. Watch out. It’s a trap and the real Directorate General of Traffic and the authorities are already warning about it. As they explain, it is a new scam circulating on the net. through the phishing methodcyber criminals try to trick you.
What is it about
And it is that cybercriminals do not get tired of devising new scams and hoaxes in which we can easily fall if the necessary precautions are not taken. Specifically, it is an email as a letter that supplants the DGT, noting that there is a pending fine. In said email a link is attached to access the Electronic Office of the DGT, but when clicking on it, malware is downloaded to the device.
It is made to look like a fraudulent campaign that has the same objective as previous ones: access personal data from those who bite via attached malicious links.
In the mail there is an advertisement by which the victim is made to see that he has a pending fine to pay or that his vehicle is immobilized. Thus, those who send these messages rely on several pillars: haste, distraction, curiosity, fear…
They will never notify us of a fine by email
Although the statement may have an official appearance, with seals, logos and identifying itself as the Ministry of the Interior, avoid clicking on any link in the message. Neither the Treasury nor Traffic are going to request the payment of a penalty through an email or a telephone message, but rather they will go through traditional channels such as the registered letter.
In any case, the DGT ensures that any citizen can enter the TESTRA and without any certificate or electronic DNI, only by entering the number of the DNI, NIE or CIF check if there is any fine of those sanctions whose notification by certified letter has failed (for example, for having changed address and not having notified it).
