Google Maps has everything to the point that some functions go unnoticed because they are quite hidden. A good example of this is save where we have parkedsomething that has been possible since no less than 2017 and yet it is so hidden that it is almost impossible for you to find it yourself.

There isn’t room for everything in the Google Maps interface, so Google must make the difficult decision of choosing where to place each option. In the case of saving parking, a function that is even more hidden You have to calibrate the compass and it is a shame because it is tremendously useful.

Finding the car is easy. The option, no

I know that Google Maps can save parking for years but if you asked me to tell you from memory how it’s done, I wouldn’t know how to tell you. What’s more, after a while trying to find the option, you may even believe that it is one of those additions that Google has ended up eliminating without us even realizing it.

The option is still there and despite all the redesigns that Google Maps has had in the six years that have passed since then, it remains as hidden as ever. To find them you have to tap on the blue dot that indicates where you arewhich opens a panel at the bottom of the application called your location.

Guardarap

It is here where you find a button to share your location in real time and the calibration of the compass, but almost off the screen we find that there is more buttons that we can access by sliding. One of them is, indeed, Save parking.

From there, it’s simple: you can write notes and the remaining time that you have left on the parking meter or in the parking lot and you can go back to where you were. Something that Google has taken away from us without us realizing it is that photos can no longer be included in the report.

Non-permanent

After doing so, the place is registered on the map with the icon of a parking lot and the text You parked here. Additionally, if you entered a time into the parking meter, you will see the remaining time both on the map itself and in a notification on your mobile.

When you want to find the car, you just need to go back to Google Maps and look for that icon or tap on the notification, although you can also quickly access it from Where is my car?which appears when searching on Google

Nearly

The function is great and yet it is so inaccessible There will be many who need it and will not know how to find it. Unfortunately, this has the side effect of the feature not being widely used and serves as an excuse for Google to remove it in the future. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
