WhatsApp compresses and resizes the images and videos we send so that they take up less space, use less data, and are sent faster, but sometimes you want the original quality to be maintained. For years, there has been the trick of sending photos as documents so that sent as the original file and it has spread so much that WhatsApp has decided to give up and make it easier for us to continue doing it.
Thus, the WhatsApp document selector includes a new section called Select from gallery with which we can easily choose a photo or video to send without compression. After a few weeks of testing, this new section is now being activated for users, first in beta.
Send photos in original quality on WhatsApp
The normal thing to do when sending a photo or video on WhatsApp is to use the gallery button and select it from the different multimedia albums on your mobile. The problem is that by doing that will be sent compressed and if the file is quite large, it may be difficult to read or distinguish details. This happens a lot, for example, if you send a long screenshot on WhatsApp.
The classic solution is send the photo or video as a document, something you do by choosing Document, instead of Gallery or Camera. Thus, the original file is sent, although it has the problem of finding the photo or video, since the document selector is not like the multimedia selector and, for example, it does not show us a preview of the photos.
The trick of sending photos as documents has become so widespread that WhatsApp has decided to give up and make the task easier for us. The document selector now includes a second access called Select from gallerywhich opens the classic WhatsApp photo and video selector.

The WhatsApp multimedia selector that is shown to us is the same as always and we can therefore see the different albums saved locally on the mobile, which makes it much easier to find the photo we want to send in original quality.
When choosing a photo or video we go to the previous step before sending a document, where the file name, size and we have the possibility of adding a description are shown. It is expected that a preview of the photo will also be shown, but for now it does not work or, at least, not always.

Thus, our photo reaches the other person with exactly the same resolution and quality with which we have it saved on our mobile, something that is not possible even if we activated the new HD quality option, which continues to compress the photo.
