These days the Gamescom 2024 event is being held in Germany, where quite interesting things are being presented. NVIDIA has taken advantage of the event to announce the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The peculiarity of this game is that it supports NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing complete, entering a select club that, until now, consisted of three games.
For those who don’t know, DLSS technology is used to run the game at a lower resolution than required and then scale it using AI to obtain extra performance. As an example, we want to run a game at 4K resolution with 120 FPS, but our graphics card doesn’t deliver, but with this technology it runs at 1080p and scales to 4K thus obtaining 120 FPS or more.
Ray Tracing, on the other hand, is the technology that allows for improved ambient lighting. Among other things, it improves reflections on surfaces and shadows. All calculations for this are done in real time, which is extremely demanding on the hardware.
New Indiana Jones game with DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing
Currently, you should know that there are only three games that feature DLSS 3.5 and full Ray Tracing. These games are Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, and Black Myth: Wukong. The new game from cinema’s greatest adventurer joins this exclusive club.
The new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is characterized by using the id Tech graphics engine, which is the engine developed by id Software. The version of the graphics engine has not been specified, but it is normal that it has been developed with the id Tech 7 graphics engine.
As a curious fact, the four games that use DLSS 3.5 and full Ray Tracing are developed with 4 different graphic engines. These are specifically:
- Cyberpunk 2077 uses the REDengine 4 graphics engine developed by CD Projekt Red.
- Alan Wake 2 is based on the Northlight Engine which has been created by Remedy Entertainment.
- Black Myth: Wukong is a game created by Game Science that has been created under the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine.
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is presumably built on the id Tech 7 engine and was developed by id Software.
We haven’t seen much of the game, apart from a small demo that is currently posted on YouTube. It serves as a taster for this interesting adventure game where we will put ourselves in the shoes of the most famous archaeologist in cinema. There is no doubt that we will face many challenges to achieve the goal.
Currently, there are no confirmed specifications for the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game. The game will be released for PC and Xbox Series X | S on December 9. It would not be unusual to see a new RTX 50 Series to run the game in 4K resolution with DLSS 3.5 + Ray Tracing.
NVIDIA plans to launch the new RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 between October and November. It should be noted that the company has indicated that stock will likely be limited in the first few weeks. This is due to the high saturation at TSMC, the foundry responsible for manufacturing these GPUs.
