Last night we received one of the news of the year. From the moment of the publication of a statement, Netflix slammed the shared accounts, imposing new conditions.
Or at least that is what he transmitted, because the reality is that the company has taken the concept of ‘subaccounts’ out of its sleeve, which implies that in the ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ plans we can continue sharing, but paying more. That is, what ended yesterday is the era of the free shared account. The era of the shared paying account arrives.
Of course, there are unknowns, such as how strict the company will be about enforcing the rules. In that sense, let’s remember that until now sharing an account was not legal either, but a blind eye was turned and even the company came to urge sharing through social networks.
To do the math, we will assume that until yesterday, whoever shared shared with a number of people equivalent to the maximum number of views. This was the numbers of the Standard and Premium plan:
Total cost |
Cost per person sharing |
|
---|---|---|
STANDARD PLAN (2 PEOPLE) |
€12.99 |
6.49 euro |
PREMIUM Plan (4 People) |
€17.99 |
4.49 euro |
As we can see, being in the Premium plan with three more friends cost 4.49 euros, also giving you the possibility of viewing the content in 4K resolution, with HDR, Dolby Vision, etc. In this way, Netflix’s price per user was relatively competitive with its competition. Let’s do the math with how things are today.
PLAN cost |
Cost per person sharing |
|
---|---|---|
STANDARD Plan (1 USER + 1 subaccount) |
€12.99 + €5.99 |
€9.49 |
PREMIUM plan (1 USER + 2 subaccounts) |
€17.99 + €11.99 |
€9.99 |
According to the new conditionsthe Standard plan allows you to add one sub-account, while the Premium plan allows you to add two sub-accounts. Thus, adding the unit cost of one and two subaccounts respectively, we arrive at having the Standard plan and one subaccount at 18.98 euros and having the Premium plan and two subaccounts at 29.97.
Making the divisions between the total number of people to share, the cost per person in the Standard plan will be 9.49 euros, and in the Premium plan 9.99 euros.
The summary is that, If before you paid 4.49 euros to share with your group of friends, now someone from that group will leave unless you organize yourself, by going from four users to the three (two plus one) that Netflix establishes in the new terms.
If you shared with the maximum number of people according to simultaneous views, you go from paying 4.49 to paying 9.99 euros
If done this way, the price of the Premium plan for people who share It has risen 5.5 euros, that is, 122%. In the Standard plan, we are talking about a 3-euro rise, which is 46%.
Annually, before having the Premium Plan and sharing, it cost 53.88 euros. Now it will come out for 119.88 euros. 66 euros more per year. In the Standard plan, from 77.88 euros it goes to 113.88. 36 euros more.
As it stands, and with Netflix urging us to do so, it seems clear that for 50 cents more per month, it’s worth sharing the Premium plan with two subaccountsThanks to everything you get in terms of image quality.
