By now we have gotten used to using one of the many cloud storage services, such as Microsoft OneDrive, to save personal files. A clear example is found in the photos and videos that usually take up a lot of space on our computers.

There are several large technology companies that offer us their own services with these characteristics so that we can upload our files. We usually come across a free modality and another more advanced, already paid. We want to focus on the aforementioned proposal that the creator of Windows offers us and that is integrated into the operating system, we are referring to OneDrive.

Many use this remote storage platform for system backups, saving personal documents, or uploading photos and videos. In the latter case, something quite common to save space on local drives, a major change is going to take place. Basically we mean that Microsoft will introduce a modification that will affect us all when it comes to saving our personal images here.

And it is that right now the software giant is informing OneDrive customers about a change that may have a impact negative on our remote storage space. Basically, the firm is communicating that as of next October 16, 2023, the photos uploaded to OneDrive will count twice as far as the space they will occupy is concerned.

So that we get a more approximate idea of what we are telling you, this is something that will directly affect all those who use the optional function of albums. If we upload the files as is to storage servicethey will occupy the usual, not double.

Our OneDrive space will disappear faster

It is important that we take into account that initially all photos uploaded to OneDrive are stored by default in the gallery. Microsoft encourages us to activate PC photo synchronization. Obviously these photographic files consume space in our remote service account. Now the problem comes when we use the albums function, since these files will consume twice your space.

This can become a serious problem if we are short of it in our personal account on the firm’s remote servers. Here we refer to an optional functionality that OneDrive customers can use to create personalized collections of photos. To access this service, all we have to do is connect to this website offered by Microsoft and start uploading content.

Also from here, at the top of the main interface we find a shortcut that allows us to create the albums discussed before. However, from now on, this may not be the best option when it comes to saving our images, despite the fact that they are more organized in these albums.

create album onedrive

The company’s explanation of this change wants to improve our user experience of Microsoft 365. He also admits that this can lead to users spending more quickly on their storage space. Although as they point out, there are various ways to increase it in the OneDrive service. Without a doubt, this change will make many rethink the use of the aforementioned album function for their photos.
