The iPhone 15 will introduce new features and say goodbye to others that have characterized it for most of its existence. Thus, the arrival of the USB-C port and the end of Lightning will be one of these. According to a recent report from the trusted Apple insider, ming chi kuo, Apple will significantly increase the shipping forecast for USB-C chargers.
Apple already found a way to profit from USB-C chargers
For months, various rumors have suggested that Apple will optimize fast charging performance with the arrival of the USB-C port on the four new iPhone 15 models, which could reach 30 W of power. But, Apple no longer includes power adapters in the purchase box of its iPhones, so if users want to take advantage of the fast charging of their iPhone 15 they will have to buy the charger separately.
To offset these new demands, Apple is expected to increase shipments of these adapters by about 120% for the second quarter and third quarter of fiscal 2023, with about 70 million units expected to ship in the fourth quarter. This will represent 30-40% year-on-year growth, with 230-240 million USB-C chargers shipped.
Kuo also suggested that Apple will give MFi (Made For iPhone) certified chargers an advantage in the future. This implies that it will not be enough to buy a cheap charger, it will have to be an official Apple adapter or, failing that, authorized by Apple.
I believe Apple will optimize the fast-charging performance of MFi-certified chargers for iPhone 15. Among Apple chargers, the 20W USB-C model is the most cost-effective option for iPhone users, generating strong demand for replacement of 20 W USB-C Chargers.
The program Apple MFi offers a certificate to authorized third-party accessories whose manufacturers must pay a payment to Apple to obtain such a certificate.
Although the rumors and leaks related to the iPhone 15 do not cease, they are becoming more and more interesting. By now, renders of the supposed look of the device have already begun to be shared, which will include the USB-C port, a unified volume button, new colors, and slimmer bezels.
