Stealing is bad. Unfortunately, that’s not what keeps many people from larceny. When it’s about steal iPhones, everyone has their own method. Amazon employees recover 5 smartphones by exchanging boxes, while thugs recover a bag with 125 iPhones inside. To pass customs too, some show imagination, like this man who tapes 68 mobiles to his body before getting caught. But the story that interests us here sets the bar even higher.
In China, a woman named Qiu lost her phone. She goes to an Apple store and starts looking at the different models. Qiu sets her sights on an iPhone 14 Plus, but seeing the price, she quickly becomes disillusioned: 7000 yuan, or almost 900 €. The customer can’t afford it, except she needs a smartphone. So she has the idea of stealing it by… gnawing on the anti-theft cable. Yes, you read correctly : the thief bit the cable several times until it broke.

As soon as someone passed by, Qiu would stop “chewing” and pretend to be browsing the device’s screen. The store manager explains that he did see the alarm go off, but the employees didn’t see anything unusual at first glance. The woman finally manages to cut the cable and puts the mobile in her bag before going out. Shortly after, the team realizes the theft and views the surveillance cameras. The whole scene was of course filmed.
The police find Qiu 30 minutes later near her home and arrest her. The video quickly goes around the country and comments vary. Some are impressed by the strength of her teeth, others are surprised that the woman imagined getting out of it despite the presence of the cameras. Qiu was taken into custody pending sentencing.
