Threads will launch posts that delete after 24 hours
Meta continues to innovate to attract and retain its users. After testing an automatic post deletion option in April, which despite its potential, was not deployed, Meta is now exploring another promising idea: temporary posts that disappear after 24 hours (which is a bit like the initia project, but with a fixed delay that the user cannot choose). This feature is directly inspired by the concept of Instagram stories, which have originated themselves as an ephemeral and spontaneous means of communication.
Alessandro Paluzzian engineer well-known for revealing new features in development at Meta, shared some interesting information about this new option. Threads users will be able to choose to post temporary messages with a visible timer that will show the time remaining before they disappear, as well as the time of associated replies.
In order to prevent technical issues, Meta has decided to restrict the functionality of embedding temporary posts on third-party sites. This will prevent users from encountering “non-existent post” error messages when they click to be redirected to Threads after the post has expired.
A Meta spokesperson described the feature as a “new, casual way to share on Threads”. This ephemeral publication format could appeal to users looking to share spontaneous moments or thoughts without the permanence of a traditional publication.
The future of Threads: between growth and profitability
Alongside this new feature, Meta is preparing to introduce advertising on Threads, almost a year after the launch of the platform. Mark Zuckerberg expected Threads to reach a level of “maturity” with a stable number of users and the majority of features available. Threads, which now has more than 200 million active users, continue to expand but is still far from the performance of the X network, which has a much larger monthly user base. The first in the world, ahead of Instagram and Facebook now.
