ByteDance, the developer of TikTok, has announced an important novelty related to the monetization of content creators on the platform. The app, from now on, will allow those users who publish videos and meet a series of requirements earn money through advertising that will be displayed on the social network
This new monetization program, called TikTok Pulse, is very similar to the one used by YouTube to reward users who publish content on its platform. YouTube, as you may know, displays ads before and during videos, and part of the revenue from those ads goes to the creator. The mechanics of TikTok, on the other hand, is to allow brands and advertisers insert advertising next to the most popular clips on the platform that appear in the ‘For you’ section, and not on most content, like YouTube does. TikTok ads, in fact, will only appear in 4% of all videos on the social network. Therefore, the Internet user will not always be consuming advertising when browsing the app.
50% of the revenue TikTok generates through advertising, they will go to those users with at least 100,000 followers who post content. The remaining 50% is kept by the application itself. At the moment, the ability for creators to monetize through ads to be shown on videos is available in the US. ByteDance, however, plans to expand it to other markets soon.
TikTok already has several options to generate income
TikTok Pulse is not the only program that the video app has in place with the aim of rewarding users who publish content on the platform. The platform, in fact, has several systems to obtain income. One of them is the creators background. The app, in particular, pays users a small amount of money for each interaction or playback on a video. The user, in this case, only has to meet a series of requirements, such as being of legal age, having a specific number of views in the last 30 days or having more than 1,000 followers. You should also post videos on a consistent basis.
TikTok, on the other hand, also allows earn revenue through live streaming. Fans can send gifts to the host that can be exchanged for real money after the ‘live‘. The platform has also been experimenting with a tipping option. Also with an online store section so that creators can sell their products in the app and thus increase their profits.
