Scammers have modernized to the point that, now, they are able to make you play your part in the robbery, as the National Police warns with the triangular scam.
Scams continue to be a topical issue and throughout this week we have seen that they have modernized to the point of being able to supplant the telephone number of banking entities, but this is not all, since now the triangular scam has arrived. It has been the National Police itself that has warned about this scam.
Unlike other methods to deceive users, the triangle scam has a different purpose and, in fact, what it intends to do is that you, as a user, assume the role of scammer. Yes, it is a very strange concept and it may not make sense, but we are going to explain it in detail.
As indicated by the National Police, triangular fraud is usually focused on the purchase and sale of second-hand products. The scammers’ way of acting is quite clear: they take advantage of your trust so that you are part of this scam of which you are not aware.
What do scammers do? Sell you products that have been bought illegally and, of course, when you get them you end up being part of this scam triangle. To ride this scam make use of buying and selling platforms together with cards that have been stolen to different people.
This is how the triangular scam of which the National Police warns works
What is the danger of the triangle scam? First of all, there is the fact that, for example, when you buy something from an individual who has placed an ad on a purchase and sale page, what you do is send the money by bizum or transfer and then wait for the product to arrive.
Everything would be fine except for the fact that the product has been paid for with a stolen card that, of course, has an owner who will report the theft and that the National Police will investigate until they reach you. You, in the first place, will be the suspect of this crime since there is a purchase in your name of a product that has arrived at your address.
Logically, you did not know anything since you have simply bought a very cheap product on a buying and selling platform. But for the National Police the situation is not the same. There are ways around this and it is being very careful with products that are new with groundbreaking prices since they do not make sense as an offer.
