If you are fans of the games retro, you will have looked everywhere for possible ways to recreate the old days, and it is possible that you have come across this operating system. But for those who don’t know it, we are going to introduce you to what it is. RetroPiewhat functions it allows us to use and most importantly, where we can get it and how we can create a console retro.
There are a lot of solutions to be able to play all those legendary video games from years ago again, among them are the new versions of the retro consoles that are currently being launched to combat that nostalgia a little (and at the same time benefit from it). But it should be noted that some of these consoles can be very expensive and only offer one functionality, which is to use them to play those games. retro of the console they imitate. That is why we bring you RetroPiean OS in which all the games from the most legendary consoles can be emulated and that we can get for free.
What is RetroPie
As we have indicated before, RetroPie It is an operating system that includes all the functionalities that we need to be able to emulate those games from the retro consoles, being able to choose from more than 50 different consoles, including the Gamecube, the Game Boy, the Mega Drive, and even some more “current” ones. If we add these emulation capabilities to a system that is extremely easy to use and that works on devices that do not have great power, it allows us to create our own retro console.
The operating system is extremely easy to use and install, and it also includes functionalities that allow us to play without any problem, allowing us to connect any controller that works via USB, since it incorporates software that allows us to recognize even the most current drivers. Together with an active community that will not hesitate to help us when we need it, as well as recommend their favorite games, this project is consolidated as one of the best to combat our nostalgia a little.
How to create a retro console with RetroPie
It is extremely easy to do this, since the only thing we have to buy is the Hardware, although the price changes depending on what we want, if for example we want a Raspberry Pi that is more powerful and that also includes controls retro, an SD card and so on, it will obviously be more expensive than if we only buy the base Hardware. The only thing we need, apart from the components, is to record our operating system on the SD card that we are going to use to create our retro consolewe can use the Balena Etcher application to install RetroPie on our card (if we don’t have it, we will need an adapter to connect our card to the PC).
The components that are needed to be able to assemble your own console are the following:
- Raspberry Pi
- SD card
- Power supply
- display connector
- Controls (optional)
- Raspberry Pi case (optional)
There are packs that include all these components along with a case that recreates the retro consolesso if it is easier for you to buy everything together rather than separately, it is generally a good idea to get one of these kits.
