Some have predicted the death of the social network following the takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk, but it is clear that, for the moment, the indicators are looking good. The whimsical boss with triple nationality published this weekend impressive figures concerning registrations, but also on the indicators of use which reached a “record level”.
Twitter attracts more than ever
On Saturday evening, the billionaire shared a slideshow that details the current state of Twitter and his vision for the platform. According to one of the graphs shared, as of November 16, Twitter has hosted more than 2 million new users per day over the past week. He added that the daily registrations were up 66% compared to the same seven-day period in 2021.

Whoever also runs Tesla gave figures on user activity, with the user base averaging nearly 8 billion active minutes per day over the past seven days to November 15 – an increase of 30 % compared to the same period last year. In another graphic, Musk claimed that hate speech posts have been declining recently. This last point is difficult to verify, especially since the text in small print explains that only tweets in English were covered by the study.
On the other side, no financial data was shared. We imagine that the cash flow is not good, Elon Musk having declared to the employees after his takeover that the company was losing so much money that bankruptcy was not excluded. A more recent report from NPR suggests that Twitter has lost 50 of its top 100 advertisers since Musk took over the platform.
Sunday, the new owner of the blue bird network told Jordan Peterson that he saw “a way for Twitter to surpass one billion monthly users in 12 to 18 months”. An ambitious goal when you know that Twitter currently has 450 million active users.
Remember that the new Twitter Blue and its revised and corrected certification system will be launched at the end of the week.
